HACAP's mission is helping people develop skills to become successful and build strong communities.
Matt and Kris Johnson Share Their Story
Kris and I have long been interested in and invested in addressing food insecurity, particularly as it affects kids. We found a terrific partner in HACAP, the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program. Food Security is one of HACAP's six Strategic Initiatives and remains a key priority within its mission. Their programming fit nicely with our interest in helping address that. We felt very welcome with the staff at HACAP when we met them at their Hiawatha facility and it remains a pleasure to be associated with their BackPack Program. The BackPack Program offers elementary school students food for weekends and school breaks. The bags include healthy, easy-to-prepare food for kid-friendly meals like macaroni and cheese, pop-top fruit cups, cereal, and shelf-stable milk.
